I cannot reproduce this. I use this every day and the choose button works whether the SoX path is set or not. The behavior after clicking choose is the program tries to find SoX in the default path, if found it will ask if you want to use that, if you chose yes it closes and no option to select is presented, if no is chosen then a file open dialog is presented and one can navigate to the SoX executable. If cancel is clicked on the file open dialog, the SoX path is cleared and the options are disabled.

Mike,

Futher to my last post. It's all working - i.e using the manual method to correct the SoX by deleting the fwl dir. But I belive there is still a small bug - basically once the SoX path has been set, the Sox Choose button becomes disabled - i.e it has no effect - no popup windows appears when you click it.
Its not that I am going to change this often or at all but I thought I'd let you know that for some reason on my PC ( Win 7 - home premium). Once the SoX path is set - the SoX Coose Button has no effect - Very starange because the other two Choose buttons still work and pop up windows appear.

Mike,

I install the new version - but the choose button for SoX path has no effect - i.e no popup windown appears - This was the issue I was having. But using the manual metod you have indicated has solved my problem. After deleting the fwl directory, the SoX path was cleared and the SoX button started to work. I have now correctly applied the link to the SoX excuteable and it all works. Many thanks for your help and the programs in the first place. Happy New Year.

Hi,

I'll try and answer your questions.

1) Yes, it only accepts .flac files, I really have no plans to support for .cue lists but I will think about it.

2) The program decodes each file individually and writes the corresponding .wav to the output directory. If the PC has enough RAM the WAV files will be cached in RAM and you can configure foobar to read the file into RAM and not play from disk. Because the program does not handle the playback it can't keep them in RAM, only the player can, but provided you have plenty of memory, the OS will cache them. All files in the output directory will be removed when the decode button is clicked, the program is not meant for converting flac to wav for long term use, it's only purpose in life is to convert the files that are going to be played at the moment.

If using foobar (and others) and it's currently playing and a new batch of files is decoded, playback of the existing track will stop and the new playlist loaded and started. This is by design.

The reason I wrote this is to reduce the processing done by the PC when decoding a FLAC on the fly, this also means that the PC I use for playing music is not used for any other purpose while playing, if you are using the browser while playing music I don't see any advantage to pre-decoding the files.

3) I will check into this, it should actually handle unicode characters. I have a friend who has a degree in Russian language and is also a developer, so I'll ask him what is needed.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sanjay,

The new version will clear the settings if you choose cancel when browsing for the SoX executable. If you want to remove the saved settings manually you can delete the "fwl" directory from the c:\users\<username>\Appsettings\Local directory. The program does not use the registry for storing user settings.

Hi,

I tested Your programme (1.1 beta 3) and found something.

1. FlacWavLoader doesn't accept cue files. Thus before playback of such standard de-facto files downloaded from Net it requires to convert into normal tracks (like on original CD, for example). It will be great if You can fix such disadvantage.

2. I found follwoing: for example, I have 8 tracks in album. I uses Foobar 2000 for playback. Player uses track No.2. If I will erase track No.3 from temporary file (where I keep cjnverted raw PCM) - playback will be stopped. It means that player writes tracks only 1 by 1. Why programme can not keep all 8 tracks in RAM? I have 4 Gb of RAM (DDR2) in my notebook PC. I'm still fighting with my PC to avoid pauses in playback when I use browser (Mozilla Firefox).

3. Last disadvantage will be funny for You, most probably. Your programme doesn't understand files named by cyrillic letters (Russian language). Also will be nice if You will fix it. If You assistance from Russia or Ukraine I will find somebody.

Hi Mike,

Yes I am using 1.1 beta 2. if you send me an e-mail, I can e-mail you the screen shot of the problem I'm having. I just can't seem to remove the Link to the Wav file from the SoX path. It just appers that the choose button has no effect - i.e it's not working.
So i'm stuck - I cant use the software because it reaches 1/2 way and then due to having a wav file name in the SoX path - it just stops. It would also help that when you unstall it it should remove all references (from Registery ?) . Because when you unstall it and then reinstall the wav file name path is still there.

Many thanks for taking the time to help.

Sanjay,

Are you using the 1.1 beta 2 version? One of the bugs that was fixed in this version was a problem with this. I installed a copy on a machine that has never had it and selected a .wav file as you did and had no problem changing the selection. If you are running the b2 version I will have to try and sort out what may be wrong but so far I am unable to reproduce this. I very much appreciate you reporting a problem and adding a help button for the SoX path is on the todo list.
